Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD)

Speak with our primary care providers at Healthcare at The Grove about managing symptoms of ADD and ADHD.

Attention Deficit Disorder is characterized by persistent inattention and or hyperactivity/impulsivity, observed in multiple settings and interfere with functioning. There is no clear reason for this disorder, which is very inheritable, but likely involves genetic, environmental, temperamental, and neurological factors. This issue with executive functioning can cause problems with learning, paying attention, attention to detail, and can affect the school, work and home (personal) environment of the patient. More recent focus has been placed on persistence of ADD/ADHD into adulthood.

The good news is that ADD/ADHD can be well managed once diagnosed. Various treatments exist, but there is not a one-size fits all approach to treatment. Treatments can include, but are not limited to:

  • Counseling
    • Behavioral therapy
    • Informational discussions
  • Environmental modifications
  • Medications
    • Stimulants
    • Non-stimulants
