Minor Skin Irritations

What are some common minor skin irritations and treatment options?

Your skin is your largest organ, and it serves a variety of functions. Skin disorders are widespread because your skin has a large surface area, is frequently exposed to environmental risks, and is directly affected by hormones and inflammation. The following are some of the most common skin problems and treatments.

Shingles

A rash with raised, red patches that can turn into blisters is the symptom of this viral illness. Pain, itching, tingling, and heightened sensitivity are some of the symptoms. Antiviral medicines, steroids, and topical lotions or ointments to relieve the rash are all possible treatments.

Psoriasis

This immune system condition is characterized by patches of red, scaly skin. In other words, your body starts manufacturing new skin cells faster than it sheds old ones. Medicines, light therapy, and topical medications are all alternatives for treatment.

Contact dermatitis

This rash occurs following exposure to environmental irritants, including many types of plants. A red, swollen, and itchy rash follows within a couple of days after exposure. There are oral and topical medications that can soothe the rash.

What is a skin growth?

Skin growths are benign tissue that may appear raised or flat on your skin and range in color from skin-colored to red to dark brown or black. Common types of skin growths include:

  • Moles
  • Warts
  • Skin tags
  • Biopsy
  • Sutures
